Secretary’s Monthly Update Email - May

Members in the northern and mid tier states are finally seeing the end of what seemed to be a never-ending winter and boats are launching and commissioning! My good friend Paul Sepe and I took Quintessence out for her maiden voyage of the season last Thursday. We spent the afternoon and evening sailing up and down Toms River, NJ on a perfect cloudless day in 10-15 knot of wind. We started off short tacking into and running with the easterly sea breeze until the wind came around to the south as the sea breeze died. We spent the evening close and broad reaching up and down the river until the sun went down!

A perfect afternoon of sailing!

This month’s update will be a quick one!

Wing & Wing

A quick apology to all members who receive printed copies of Wing & Wing for a considerable delay in mailing.I switched to a different printer this issue and the printed issues where mistakenly shipped to the Association PO Box in Connecticut instead of directly to me for distribution. Compounding the problem, no one was quite sure where they went, just that they had been mailed. Going to the PO Box wouldn’t normally be a problem as John Eginton of schooner Mystic Whaler routinely checks the PO Box.  Unfortunately, Mystic Whaler works with the Clearwater Foundation operating out of New York City until the school year ends so the PO Box doesn’t get checked quite as frequently.

All is good now. I received the issues on Friday and they are going out in the mail today! This won’t be a problem with future issues, as the printer will be mailing the issues directly!

Again, I apologize for the delay!

New American Schooner Association online store

Thanks to the generosity of members Brenda and David Hattery (schooner Mahdee, currently somewhere around San Francisco I believe) the Association has a new online store on Brenda and David’s new venture, SchoonerChandlery.Com.

All the currently available Association merchandise is available through the store. It is still a bit of a work in progress, so please forgive the missing photos! We will have them up as soon as possible!

The store can be found at Drop in and take a look at the Association’s and the other stores on Schooner Chandlery! There are a number of stores that will definitely be of interest to traditional sailors!

Oh, have you looked at your Association burgee recently? Chances are you need a new one! Don’t have one? What a disgrace, stop by the store and pick one up!

There are a lot of events coming up in the next few months. Be sure to check them out and make your plans!
